Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are eyelash extensions?
A. Eyelash extensions are tapered synthetic fibers created to look just like your natural eyelashes, only thicker and longer.
Q. Who wears eyelash extensions?
A. Anyone who has their own natural lashes can wear these extensions.
Q. Who can not wear extensions?
A. People who have very sparse natural lashes due to chemotherapy, alopecia, or trichotillomania are not good candidates for extensions.
Q. How long does the procedure take?
A. The initial application can take between 1-2 hours depending on how many lashes are being applied. Fills (or touch ups) take between 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Q. How long do the extensions last?
A. Each extension is bonded to one single natural lash. The life span of your lash is 30-90 days. When your natural lash sheds, the extensions will shed with it.
Q. How often will I need touch ups?
A. Scheduling for touch ups every 2-4 weeks is required to to keep up the look of the full set. Although the extensions can be worn for one special occasion, most clients prefer to maintain the look. Without touch ups, the full set will begin to look sparse and they will eventually all fall out.
Q. How do I care for my extensions?
A. Eyelash extensions are easy to care for. As long as you avoid constant rubbing and keep all oil based makeup removers and facial cleansers away from your eyes, your extensions should stay in place until your natural sheds. Only use cleansers and removers that are formulated for eyelash extensions.
Q. Can I use mascara?
A. DO NOT use mascara with the extensions. Mascara can break down the adhesive and your extensions can fall off prematurely. Mascara also creates a barrier between they natural lash and the extension. This makes it impossible to insure a proper bond for the two. If you feel you need to put mascara on, it's probably time to schedule your touch up.
Q. Can I apply my own extensions?
A. NOT AT ALL. This procedure requires you to keep your eyes closed for the entire process. Extensions can only be applied by a certified technician. You should NOT attempt this yourself.
Q. What's the difference between eyelash tabbing and eyelash extensions?
A. Tabs are clusters of lashes that can be found at any beauty supply store. These are placed directly on top of your existing lashes (with no separation of the lashes) or lash line. This procedure can be done at home carefully looking in a mirror. Extensions are ONE individual lash placed directly on top of ONE natural eyelash. Your lashes are separated with specialized tweezers to isolate one natural lash. The extension is then placed on top of that lash to become an extension of your natural lash.
